My take on Groundhog Day

Whet up your axe and whistle up your dog.
We're off to the woods to hunt ground hog.
Ol' Ground hog!

Here comes Sam with a ten-foot pole...
A-roust that ground hog outa his hole...

Well, stand back, boys and let's be wise...
I think I see his beady eyes...

Grab him, boys, and pull him out...
Great Godamighty! Ain't a ground hog stout...

Work, boys, work as hard as you can tear...
The meat'll do to eat and the hide'll do to wear...

Well, the meat's in the pot, and the hide's in the churn...
If that ain't ground hog, I'll be durned...

I like my ground hog stewed and fried...
An' a little piece of corn bread by the side...

Up come Sal with a snigger and a grin...
Ground hog grease all over her chin.
