Penn Radio is no more.

How am I supposed to get up at 6:30AM and drive 100 miles without Penn? He kept me going. He kept me awake. He was like... aural caffeine.

Damn.

To hell with his kids.. lets start a letter writing campaign. If that doesn't work, we will picket his show in Vegas!!!

Sorry to hear about Penn's show. Though I haven't caught it recently, I found it to be pretty damn entertaining. I'll miss Monkey Tuesday, for sure.

I assume you're getting the show on podcast, right? If so, I have a few alternatives for you that I heartily endorse. I've mentioned them before in my regular journal, but I thought I'd just do it again here.

Rick Emerson broadcasts from Portland, Oregon. His show is very intelligent, and the podcasts are in one-hour segments, with the commercials left in. This is not that bad because he does a lot of live reads that are hilarious. I can't describe the show, really. Just imagine a guy wth OCD drinking cup after cup of coffee and talking a hundred miles an hour about Cheap Trick, Glen Garry GlenRoss, and the correct order of the Star Wars films...and you're almost there. It's the greatest radio show in the world, and I'm not kidding. Very small file sizes because the show is just recorded off somebody's radio, somewhere.

TD Mischke is a honest-to-goodness Minnesota radio institution. He has a slow, folksy style but is actually fairly subversive and anti-authoritarian. I really like his show, but it can be uneven and he does sometimes take months off for bouts of severe depression. He sounds like he's about 80 years old...but he's actually less than 50. I've heard him do entire two-hour radio shows without taking a single phone call. One time he just said "I'm tired of talking" after about five minutes and said nothing for the rest of the show while people called in and asked how he was doing. Much funnier than I make it sound.

Anyway, I know how it is to have your favorite radio show go away. Hope you can find something you like to take its place.

You will just have to get his books on CD and maybe some other books on CD (or tape if that's what your car has).

Yes, it's really a downer when you really love a show and then it goes away.
