Poisoned pet food
Mar. 24th, 2007 01:41 amI was kind of wondering when/if anyone would find the smoking gun behind the pet food recall. Apparently the New York State Dept. of Ag has verified it: Rat poison.
Aminopterin is used as a rat poison in other countries, like China, and it was in a batch of imported wheat used in making "cuts & gravy" style cat and dog food.
Those who know me well know I used to rant about pet food *years* ago. How warped is it that we're feeding our cuddly little carnivores a diet of predominantly wheat and corn? Why does this grain-mad nation have to import wheat? Do you have any idea what other kinds of crap go into pet food? It's disgusting! But, given the extent to which humans have screwed up the evolutionary diet of just about everything we touch, not surprising.
I'm so sorry for the people and pets that suffered because of this negligence. I count myself very lucky that the cat food I use wasn't on that list.
