THANK YOU!!!

I hate to say it, but giving up coffee has helped immensely - no acid reflux in almost two weeks and that's quite the record for me. (NOw I need some Tea icons to replace my coffee icons!)

Surgical Remedy

The reason I had gastric bypass surgery was the surgical remedy to deal with my VERY SEVERE GERD. So yeah, I had it so bad that body modification was the only thing that was going to keep me out of the E.R. - THANKS for this link, now I can add it to my "Why did I have this surgery?" list of resources for people who are curious.

So... they did fundoplication at the same time as the Roux-en-y? Or did they say the gastric bypass itself was a treatment for the GERD?

The gastric bypass was the treatment for my particular GERD issues. I do have a damaged esophagus and it was not doing its job (saw the endoscopy) and I did/do have a hiatal hernia (sp?). But now that I don't produce the outrageous amounts of acid and have lost a lot of weight, those problems are correcting themselves.

I have been off GERD related medications since the day of surgery and have only had one incident where it felt kind of like the GERD pre-surgery, but it passed in 20 minutes. No action or E.R. room required.
