This will mean absolutely nothing to the vast majority of you, but it's my journal and I'll WOW-geek out when I wanna.

In glancing at my favorite World o' Warcraft-related website (Petopia) for updates, I noticed the site owner now keeps a blog.

"A WoW hunter-focused blog? How diverting!" thought I. Then, "I wonder if there are more of them...?"

Well, DUH. A quick bit of surfing revealed the unmitigated genius of Big Red Kitty, the leatherworking insights of The Hunter's Mark, the pinkness of Gamer Mommy, etc. etc.

I am tickled, tickled I tell you. To find other people geeking out on your own highly-specific subgenre gaming fetish is REALLY NICE.

The hunter class is what keeps my attention in World of Warcraft. The other options just don't do it for me (although rogues *are* pretty sweet for exploration). I'm not one for instances or raiding, so I spend most my time solo questing. A big chunk of my motivation is being able to tame the rare or unusual animals in the game as pets. I think, "Ooo, one more level and I can get that really cool windserpent!" or "I wonder if I can find that rare spawn boar around here..." That's basically what keeps me coming back.

Sadly, I know precious few people who would appreciate the fact that I just ran a level 10 night elf all the way to the blood elf starting area (through Hillsbrad, Alterac Mountains, and both level 50-60 Plaguelands) just to tame a level 7 Springpaw lynx (a very pretty cat with a blood red coat color found no where else in the game) - and then went back a second time to pick up a dragonhawk hatchling there (again, a unique color pattern on a critter you won't see again until level 67 in Outlands). It was long, frustrating, and fun - and it had nothing to do with any of the actual quests or dungeons built into the game. Playing a hunter means you make up your own quests sometimes, with awesome new pets as your reward. :)

So here's to solidarity, my Hunter brothers and sisters of Azeroth. I look forward to reading your blogs.
