When I was in high school (yeeeears ago) it was optional, so of course I never took it. Somehow I picked up basic cooking sometime after that. :)

Today, I don't know if it's still just optional or not being taught at all. I do know *most* of the college students in the dietetics classes have no idea how to cook anything unless it comes with microwave instructions and are highly suspicious of any "foreign" foods containing vegetable matter.
