I sent the article to Ras and he brought up something I hadn't even considered before now...

Ras: I also don't see how people can not see that eventually there will be a war for domination of the world between people like that and the rest of us

Ras: I mean if it can turn a father with no history of violence into a sadistic murderer who can kill his own daughter for "Honor" because his daughter dared talk to a foreigner, how can we possibly expect to live in peace with them?

It's a sobering and frightening thought.

You know years ago I tried talking about this kind of culture with a woman who had adopted Islam in this country along with her American born African husband. She told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and that women are not mistreated or discriminated against in muslim countries. She told me I was prejudiced, and that my prejudiced eye cast a jaundice on a perfectly equitable, enlightened culture that I simply did not understand. And I should not talk about things that I do not know about.

Yeah. Right.

Well, my personal family history involves a family member who tried to strangle me to death, and so I think I can say something about women being murdered by family members. It's wrong. There isn't a cultural premise in the world that can justify murder. I don't know what we can do, because as long as a group of some people agree that these "honor killings" are okay, it's going to happen.

Ah yes, fucking "honor killings", I've been hearing about them for some time now...will someone explain to me how the Koran evidently proclaims murdering is wrong, but yet it's OK to brutally murder a woman because she supposedly "dishonors" her family?

There are good Muslims, and there are whacko Muslims. Never mistake that. This father and his sons fall under the latter title. No good person, no truly good person, can kill someone because of personal humiliation. No god calls that anything other than selfishness. That's why there's god, and then there are masculine, created texts about God, called "scripture". And, frankly, never the twain shall meet.
