Washington, D.C. - January 26, 2010 - New data released by the Food Research
and Action Center (FRAC) reveal - for the very first time - the extent to
which Americans are struggling to afford enough food in every Congressional
District and 100 of the country's largest metropolitan areas. This
unprecedented set of data also chronicles food hardship through December
2009, providing a unique up-to-date examination of how millions of American
households in every part of the country are struggling with hunger in the
recession. Official government data on food insecurity have a nearly
one-year time lag and do not go below the state level.

I do not like...
Books: Anything on the bestselling fiction list. Or just about anything considered a "classic" which is litspeak for "will want to make you slit your wrists halfway through."
Movies: Just about anything that gets an Oscar best picture nomination. Emotional dramas. Gross-out slasher films. Shaky-cam faux documentaries. Movies about pretty blue people who need a great white saviour for some inexplicable reason (coff coff).
Do I feel left out of media conversations? Very often. I don't read enough sci fi to be a sci fi FAN so I can't talk books. I do watch blockbuster movies, so that's not as painful.
Mostly, however, I have learned that my lack of television watching is what makes me feel more left out than anything else. I like a lot of programs (Psych, Leverage, Middleman, White Collar). But there are NONE that I watch religiously enough to fall into the FAN category. And so, I am relegated to nodding and smiling politely when friends go on and on and on about Supernatural, Dollhouse, et al.
I don't know anyone who loves Bollywood the way I do. Welcome to my atypical tastes.

Imagine going to a fast food or chain restaurant in KY and easily being able to see how many calories there are in the items you are considering ordering. This could be a reality if menu labeling legislation being proposed by Senator Denise Harper-Angel and Representative Kelly Flood passes.

My teddy bear, Brownie. He meant everything: love, family, safety, peace.
My grandmother gave him away when I was 17, while I was visiting my parents. She did that with almost all of my childhood toys (except the ones I hid). I never in a million years thought she'd give away the damn teddy bear that I'd had since I was two. I mean, she still had my mother's teddy bear at the time, which was at least 30 years old.
Guess I was different.
Never forgave her. Never will.
